Stock market opens December on a negative note, sheds N5.6 billion
The Nigeria Stock Exchange (NSE) on Monday, opened the month of December on a negative note by shedding N5.58 billion from the market capitalization. The decline was driven by drops in Industrial goods, Banking, and Oil & Gas sectors. As a result, market breadth closed negative, recording 12 gainers as against 17 losers.

In summary, the All-Share Index (ASI) decreased by 11.56 absolute points, representing a decline of 0.04% to close at 26,990.59 points. Similarly, the overall Market Capitalization size lost N5.58 billion, representing a dip of 0.04% to close at N13.03 trillion.
UNILEVER emerged as the top gainer, while SOVRENINS emerged as top loser.
The downturn was impacted by losses recorded in large and medium capitalized stocks, amongst which are; UACN (-8.75%), FCMB (-5.47%), CCNN (-5.00%), OANDO (-1.33%), TRANSCORP (-0.99%), UBA (-0.71%), ACCESS (-0.54%) and GUARANTY (-0.49%).

The Naira at the official rate closed at N306.95/$1 representing 0.02% appreciation as against last Friday’s position.
The Investors and Exporters (I&E) FX window opened at N362.38, traded high at N363.65 and eventually closed at N361.70, representing 0.31% appreciation against last Friday’s position. A total of $346.91 million was transacted through the I&E window today.
Overnight(O/N) rate closed at 4.29%, representing a 0.21% depreciation against last Friday’s position, while Open Buy-Back (OBB) rate closed at 3.43%, representing a 0.36% depreciation as against last Friday’s position.

The NASD OTC market on Monday remains unchanged, as the Unlisted Securities Index (USI) closed at 692.82 points. Similarly, the Market Capitalization closed at N497.75 billion as against last Friday’s position. However, the aggregate volume and value declined by 99.94% and 98.72% respectively, as investors traded a total of 12,450 units of shares valued at N1.40 million in 5 deals.
