Stock Exchange posts marginal loss to extend downtrend
Equities trading on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) continued its downtrend by posting a marginal loss of 0.02%. Subsequently, only the oil&gas sector closed negatively. Nonetheless, market breadth closed positive, with 25 gainers as against 14 losers.
NSE Trading Floor
The All Share Index (ASI) decreased by 7.41 absolute points, representing a decline of 0.02% to close at 29,765.31 points. Similarly, the Market Capitalization lost N3.27 billion, representing a dip of 0.02% to close at N13.12 trillion.
WAPCO emerged the top gainer while CILEASING emerged as top loser.
The downtrend was impacted by losses recorded in large and medium capitalized stocks, amongst which are; FO (-9.96%), MTNN (-1.52%), ZENITHBANK (-0.99%), STANBIC (-0.95%), and CADBURY (-0.91%)

The Naira exchange rate remain unchanged after today’s transaction closed at N306.95/$1 as against yesterday’s position.
The Investors and Exporters (I&E) FX window opened at N360.25, traded high at N361.50 and eventually closed at N360.69 representing a 0.04% depreciation as against yesterday’s closing position. A total of $100.05 million was transacted through the I&E window today.
Overnight(O/N) rate closed at 5.00%, representing 2.50% depreciation as against yesterday’s closing position, while Open Buy-Back (OBB) rate closed at 4.43%, representing a 2.43% depreciation against yesterday’s closing position.

The NASD market halted its three consecutive negative sentiment at the end of today’s trading session, as the Unlisted Securities Index (USI) grew by 1.95% to close at 733.28 points against yesterday’s index. Also, the Market Capitalization gained N10.09 billion, to close at N526.82 billion. However, Market activities measured by aggregate volume and value traded declined by 58.01%. and 78.66% respectively. Investors traded a total of 231,959 units of shares valued at N6.68 million in 10 deals.
