Sell-Off Persist In The Nigeria Equity Market As Index Decline By 0.14%

Selloff sentiment persisted in the Nigeria equity market, lengthening losses to four successive trading session. The negative performance was majorly driven by huge profit taking in high volume traded stocks. Market breadth closed negative, recording 17 gainers and 18 losers.

NSE Trading Floor

The All Share Index (ASI) shed 43.07 absolute points, representing a decline of 0.14%, to close at 31,082.32 points. Similarly, Market Capitalization lost N16.06billion representing a dip of 0.14%, to close at N11.59trillion.

MCNICHOLS emerged the top gainer while PRESCO emerged as the top loser.

The downtrend was impacted by losses recorded in medium and large capitalized stocks, amongst which are; NB (-6.67%), DIAMONDBANK (-1.63%), PZ (-1.36%), NESTLE (-1.19%), DANGSUGAR (-0.46%), UACN (-0.65%), STANBIC (-0.62%), DANGFLOUR (-0.46%), and DANGCEM (-0.26%)

FOREIGN EXCHANGE

The Naira at the inter-bank rate closed at N306.90 representing a 0.02% appreciation against yesterday’s closing position.

The Investors and Exporters (I&E) FX window opened at N360.29, traded high at N361.25 and eventually closed at N360.13, representing a 0.13% appreciation against yesterday’s closing position. A total of $101.25 million was transacted through the I&E window today.

MONEY MARKET

Overnight(O/N) rate closed at 12.67%, representing a 1.08% appreciation against yesterday’s closing position, while Open Buy-Back (OBB) rate also closed at 12.00%, representing a 1.42% appreciation against yesterday’s closing position.
