NSE-ASI Decline by 1.89% as MTNN, DANGCEM Halts Rally
The bullish run on the Nigeria bourse since the listing of MTN Nigeria Communications Plc (MTNN) was put halted after today’s trading activities. The decline was impacted by the market bellwethers, mainly Dangote Cement Plc (DANGCEM), MTN Nigeria Communications Plc (MTNN) and 19 others. Market breadth closed positive, recording 21 gainers and 17 losers.
NSE Trading Floor
The All Share Index (ASI) shed 596.22 absolute points, representing a decline of 1.89% to close at 30,881.29 points. Similarly, Market Capitalization dipped by N262.61 billion, representing a decrease of 1.89% to close at N13.60 trillion.
ETI emerged the top gainer while NEIMETH emerged as top loser.
The downturn was impacted by losses recorded in large and medium capitalized stocks, amongst which are; MTNN (-6.04%), NB (-6.00%), FLOURMILL (-4.17%), DANGCEM (-2.44%), WEMABANK (-1.67%), ACCESS (-0.85%), and DANGSUGAR (-0.37%).

FOREIGN EXCHANGE
The Naira exchange rate at the official window stayed unchanged, closing at N306.90/$1, against yesterday’s position.
The Investors and Exporters (I&E) FX window opened at N360.26, traded high at N361.50 and eventually closed at N360.39 representing a 0.04% depreciation as against yesterday’s closing position. A total of $342.66 million was transacted through the I&E window today.
MONEY MARKET
Overnight(O/N) rate closed at 12.00%, representing a 1.50% appreciation against yesterday’s closing position, while Open Buy-Back (OBB) rate closed at 11.14%, representing a 1.29% appreciation against yesterday’s closing position.

NASD OTC MARKET
The NASD market today closed negative, as the Unlisted Securities Index (USI) declined 2.05% to close at 749.88 points. Market Capitalization also declined by N11.28 billion to close at N538.74 billion. Conversely, market activities measured by aggregate volume and value grew by 1,297.59% and 105.67% respectively. Investors traded a total of 227,877 units of shares valued at N2.98 million in 22 deals.
