Nigerian equity market halts downtrend as NSE-ASI appreciates by 0.38%

Transactions on the Nigerian equity market today (Thursday) closed on a positive note as the All-Share-Index appreciated by 0.38% to halt the previous negative sentiment of three consecutive trading day. The uptrend was supported by value appreciation on some bellwether stocks like MTNN, ZENITHBANK, ACCESS, and 19 others. Consequently, the market breadth closed on a positive note, recording 22 gainers as against 12 losers.

NSE Trading Floor

In summary, the All-Share Index (ASI) increased by 96.06 absolute points, representing a growth of 0.38% to close at 25,520.97 points. Similarly, the overall Market Capitalization size gained N50.12 billion, representing an increase of 0.38% to close at N13.31 trillion.

ETERNA emerged as the top gainer while ABCTRANS emerged as the top loser.

The upturn was impacted by gains recorded in large and medium capitalized stocks, amongst which are; JAPAULOIL (+5.00%), HONYFLOUR (+4.44%) ACCESS (+3.85%), ZENITHBANK (+3.35%), UBA (+1.64%), ETI (-1.20%), FBNH (+1.01%), OANDO (+0.44%), MTNN (+0.42%), WAPCO (+0.12%) and NB (+0.12%).

The Investors and Exporters (I&E) FX window opened at N386.17, traded high at N386.50 and eventually closed at N386.17, representing a 0.054% depreciation against the previous day’s closing position. A total of $40.43 million was transacted through the I&E window today.

 

MONEY MARKET

Overnight(O/N) rate today (Thursday) closed at 2.20%, representing a 0.18% depreciation against the previous day’s closing position, while Open Buy-Back (OBB) rate closed at 1.40%, representing a 0.10% depreciation against the previous day’s position.
