Negative Sentiment Persist, As Local Bourse Opens New Week in the Red

The Nigerian equity market closed transactions for the first day in the new week on a negative note, taking the bearish sentiment to six consecutive trading sessions. Today’s price depreciation was due to investors’ profit-taking sentiments in all the major sectors except the consumer goods and banking sectors. Hence, the ASI and Market Capitalization plunged by 0.02%. Furthermore, the market breadth closed negatively, recording 20 losers as against 18 gainers.

In summary, the All-Share Index (ASI) shed 6.16 absolute points, representing a decrease of 0.02%, to close at 38,915.62 points. Similarly, the overall Market Capitalization value lost N3 billion, representing a drop of 0.02% to close at N20.28 trillion.

MORISON emerged as the top gainer (by percentage points) for today, with a price appreciation of +9.38% while SCOA emerged as the top loser (by percentage points) with a price depreciation of -10.00%.

Today’s market negative performance was driven by price depreciation in large and medium capitalized stocks which are; SCOA (-10.00%), ACADEMY (-7.69%), UPDC(-6.21%), ABCTRANS (-5.71%), OANDO (-4.09%), JAPAULGOLD(-3.92%),WAPIC(-3.85%), GUINNESS (-3.23%), MBENEFIT(-3.23%), LIVESTOCK (-2.80%), REGALINS (-2.04%), CHIPLC(-1.85%), WAPCO(-1.79%), AFRIPRUD(-1.56%), CUSTODIAN(-0.75%), FBNH(-0.66%), UACN (-0.48)  and CAVERTON (-0.58%)
