Negative Sentiment in Oil & Gas Stocks drag Equity Market Lower
The Nigerian Stock market began the new week on low, shedding 0.45% to extend losing streak to four (4) successive trading sessions. Today’s loss was mainly driven by decline in the prices of major Oil and Gas Stocks, amidst the developing story between Oando Plc vs Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Consequently, Market breadth closed negative, recording 15 gainers and 28 losers.
NSE Trading Floor
The All Share Index (ASI) shed 138.98 absolute points, representing a decline of 0.45% to close at 30,930.39 points. Similarly, Market Capitalization lost N61.22 billion, representing a dip of 0.45% to close at N13.62 trillion.
CHAMPION emerged the top gainer while GLAXOSMITH emerged as top loser.
The downtrend was impacted by losses recorded in large and medium capitalized stocks, amongst which are; JBERGER (-9.84%), OANDO (-9.52%), SEPLAT (-9.07%), WEMABANK (-3.13%), FO (-2.18%), DANGFLOUR (-1.48%), FBNH (-1.42%), GUARANTY (-0.95%), HONYFLOUR (-0.91%), TRANSCORP (-0.86%), DANGSUGAR (-0.83%), and FCMB (-0.62%).

The Naira exchange rate at the official window remained unchanged at N306.95/$1 against Friday’s position.
The Investors and Exporters (I&E) FX window opened at N360.32, traded high at N361.70 and eventually closed at N360.76 representing a 0.01% depreciation against Friday’s closing position. A total of $213.03 million was transacted through the I&E window today.
Overnight(O/N) rate closed at 10.21%, representing a 5.29% appreciation against yesterday’s closing position, while Open Buy-Back (OBB) rate closed at 9.29%, representing a 5.14% appreciation against Friday’s closing position.

The NASD market closed negatively after today’s trading activities as the Unlisted Securities Index (USI)declined by 0.48% to close at 744.99 points against Fridays index. The Market Capitalization shed N2.61 billion closing at N535.23 billion. Market activities measured by aggregate volume and value shot up by 4,348.46% and 2,064.37% respectively. Investors traded a total of 106,852 units of shares valued at N3.31 million in 5 deals.
