Negative Sentiment Extended as NSE-ASI Decline by 0.13%

Activities in the equity market extended negative sentiment to five straight trading sessions, causing the All Share Index(ASI) to decline by 0.13% compared to yesterday’s All Share Index (ASI). Today’s decline was impacted by all market sectors except the Banking sectors. Market breadth closed negative, recording 14 gainers and 23 losers.

NSE Trading Floor

The All Share Index (ASI) shed 41.48 absolute points, representing a decline of 0.13%, to close at 31,040.84 points. Similarly, Market Capitalization lost N15.47 billion representing a dip of 0.13%, to close at N11.58trillion.

NIGERINS emerged the top gainer while CUTIX emerged as the top loser.

The downtrend was impacted by losses recorded in medium and large capitalized stocks, amongst which are; CADBURY (-8.33%), OANDO (-4.27%), PZ (-3.23%), ETI (-2.17%), NESTLE (-1.74%), STANBIC (-1.67%), NB (-0.71%), FBNH (-0.61%), UNILEVER (-0.52%), and GUARANTY (-0.14%)

FOREIGN EXCHANGE

The Naira at the inter-bank rate remain unchanged to closed at N306.90 against yesterday’s closing position.

The Investors and Exporters (I&E) FX window opened at N360.38, traded high at N361.25 and eventually closed at N360.40, representing a 0.07% depreciation against yesterday’s closing position. A total of $277.11 million was transacted through the I&E window today.

MONEY MARKET

Overnight(O/N) rate closed at 11.17%, representing a 1.50% depreciation against yesterday’s closing position, while Open Buy-Back (OBB) rate also closed at 10.17%, representing a 1.83% depreciation against yesterday’s closing position.
