MTNN Listing drives Equity market to 0.54% gain
Following the listing of the much anticipated MTN Nigeria Communications Plc, the equity market performance index rose by 0.54%; halting previous 9 consecutive sessions of downtrend. However, market breadth closed negative, recording 11 gainers and 25 losers.

The All Share Index (ASI) gained 152.11 absolute points, representing a growth of 0.54% to close at 28,438.19 points. Similarly, Market Capitalization grew by N1.90 trillion; representing an increased of 17.87% to close at N12.53 trillion due to the addition of N1.83 trillion market capitalization of MTN Nigeria Communications Plc
MTNN emerged the top gainer while UNITYBNK emerged as top loser.
The upturn was impacted by gains recorded in MTN (10.00%) and medium capitalized stocks, amongst which are; UNIONDAC (+4.35%), UNILEVER (+3.23%), NAHCO (+1.60%), UBN (+1.48%), and UCAP (+0.41%).

The Naira exchange rate at the official window remain unchanged to close at N306.95/$1, against yesterday’s position.
The Investors and Exporters (I&E) FX window opened at N360.11, traded high at N361.40 and eventually closed at N360.35 representing a 0.05% appreciation as against yesterday’s closing position. A total of $551.97 million was transacted through the I&E window today.
Overnight(O/N) rate closed at 6.57%, representing a 4.00% depreciation against yesterday’s closing position, while Open Buy-Back (OBB) rate closed at 5.86%, representing a 4.00% depreciation against yesterday’s closing position.

The NASD market remain unchanged as the Unlisted Securities Index (USI) closed at 765.91 points against yesterday’s index. However, Market Capitalization declined by N10 million to closed at N550.26 billion. Conversely, market activities measured by aggregate volume and value grew by 143.56% and 322.67% respectively. Investors traded a total of 24,600 units of shares valued at N7.26 million in 2 deals.
