Market defy election misery, gain 0.81%

The equity market today closed the week positive, gaining 0.81% to defy pre-election day misery. This was driven majorly by price appreciation on major Oil and Gas stocks amongst others.   Market breadth also closed positive, recording 33 gainers and 22 losers.

NSE Trading Floor

The All Share Index (ASI) gained 261.51 absolute points, representing a growth of 0.81%, to close at 32,715.20 points. Similarly, Market Capitalization gained N97.52 billion representing an increase of 0.81%, to close at N12.20 trillion.

PRESCO & ROYALEX emerged the top gainers while MRS emerged  as the top loser.

The upturn was impacted by gains recorded in medium and large capitalized stocks, amongst which are; TRANSCORP (+9.62%), DANGFLOUR (+9.58%), OANDO (+9.09%), WEMABANK (+8.42%), SEPLAT (+6.72%), UCAP (+5.97%), HONYFLOUR (+4.48%), NB (+3.75%), OANDO (+9.09%), DANGSUGAR (+2.00%), UBA (+1.91%), FBNH (+1.81%), DANGCEM (+1.57%), FLOURMILL (+1.20%), STANBIC (+0.62%), and DIAMONDBNK  (+0.42%)

FOREIGN EXCHANGE

The Naira at the inter-bank rate  remain unchanged to closed at N306.75 against yesterday’s closing price.

The Investors and Exporters (I&E) FX window opened at N361.65, traded high at N365.00 and eventually closed at N361.65, representing a 0.06% appreciation against yesterday’s closing price. A total of $355.90 million was transacted through the I&E window today.

MONEY MARKET

Overnight(O/N) rate closed at 17.50%, representing a 1.50% appreciation against yesterday’s closing position, while Open Buy-Back (OBB) rate also closed at 15.83% representing a 0.83%  appreciation against yesterday’s closing position.
