Local bourse sustains bearish sentiment to the fifth consecutive trading day
The Nigerian bourse today (Wednesday) closed on a negative note, further receding by 0.39%, extending the bearish sentiment to the fifth consecutive trading day. The downtrend was driven by persistent sell pressure on bellwether stocks like ACCESS, GUARANTY and 20 others. Consequently, the market breadth closed on a negative note, recording 22 losers as against 17 gainers.

In summary, the All-Share Index (ASI) decreased by 96.33 absolute points, representing a dip of 0.39% to close at 24,656.99 points. Similarly, the overall Market Capitalization size shed N49.56 million, representing a decrease of 0.38% to close at N12.86 trillion.
CHAMS emerged as the top gainers while PZ emerged as the top loser.
The downturn was impacted by losses recorded in large and medium capitalized stocks, amongst which are; PZ (-10.00%), SEPLAT (-9.98%), GUINNESS (-9.09%), NB (-3.61%), FLOURMILL (-1.00%), ACCESS (-0.75%) and GUARANTY (-0.22%).

The Investors and Exporters (I&E) FX window opened at N386.33, traded high at N389.20, and eventually closed at N386.20, representing a 0.14% depreciation against the previous day’s closing position. A total of $90.88 million was transacted through the I&E window today.
Overnight(O/N) rate closed at 15.75%, representing a 0.08% appreciation against the previous day’s closing position, while Open Buy-Back (OBB) rate closed at 14.67%, unchanged against the previous day’s position.

The NASD OTC market on Wednesday closed higher, as the Unlisted Securities Index (USI) closed at 709.11, representing a 1.16% appreciation against the previous day’s closing position.
