Local bourse shed 0.07% to extend negative sentiment

Transactions on the Local Bourse today (Wednesday), closed on a negative note to extend prior day bearish sentiment, as the market performance indices, the All -Share Index (ASI) and Market Capitalization fell by 0.07% on the back of profit-taking of some highly capitalized stocks. Furthermore, the market breadth closed negatively, recording 17 gainers and 22 losers.

In summary, the All-Share Index (ASI) shed 29.03 absolute points, representing a loss of 0.07% to close at 40,465.32 points. While the overall Market Capitalization value lost N15.19 billion, representing a decline of 0.07% to close at N21.17 trillion.  

JBERGER emerged as top gainer with a price appreciation of +9.73%, while BETAGLASS emerged as top losers’ (by percentage points) for today, with the price depreciation of -9.75%.  

Today’s market loss was driven by price depreciation in large and medium capitalized stocks amongst which are; JAPAULGOLD(-8.86%), FIDSON(-8.55%), VITAFOAM(-7.56%), TRANSCORP(-5.05%), UACN(-3.61%), GUINNESS(-3.41%), FCMB(-3.03%), ACCESS(-1.78%), BUACEMENT(-1.77%), FIDELITY(-1.61%), AFRIPRUD(-0.72%) and UBA(-0.05%).

The Investors and Exporters (I&E) FX window opened at N406.76 traded high at N423.15 and eventually closed at N410, representing 0.08% depreciation against yesterday’s position. A total of $40.79 million was transacted through the I&E window today.

MONEY MARKET

Overnight(O/N) rate closed at 2.25%, representing a 50% depreciation against yesterday’s position, while Open Buy-Back (OBB) rate closed at 2.00%,  representing a 50% depreciation as against yesterday’s position.
