Local Bourse Recedes by 0.08% After Four Days of Consecutive Wins

Trading activities on the Nigerian equity market closed for today (Thursday) on a negative note, halting the positive sentiments recorded in the previous four consecutive trading sessions. The bearish performance was buoyed by investors’ profit-taking sentiments in blue-chip stocks like STANBIC, GTCO, ZENITH BANK , ACCESS and  12 others. Hence, the ASI dropped by 0.08%, while Market Capitalization declined by 0.13%. Furthermore, the market breadth closed negatively, recording 16 losers as against 12 gainers.

In summary, the All-Share Index (ASI) declined by 31.44 absolute points, representing a loss of 0.08% to close at 38,469.87 points. Similarly, the overall Market Capitalization value shed N26.68 billion, representing a decrease of 0.13% to close at N20.04 trillion. The disparity between the ASI and the market capitalisation was due to the adjustment in the equity price of FIDSON HEALTHCARE PLC (from N6.34 to N6.09) for dividend payment.

NEM emerged as the top gainer (by percentage points) for today, with a maximum price appreciation of +10.00 while PRESTIGE emerged as a  top loser (by percentage points) with a maximum price depreciation of -10.00%.

Today’s market downturn was driven by price depreciation in large and medium capitalized stocks amongst which are; PRESTIGE(-10.00%), UPL(-7.88%) WAPIC(-5.08%), MBENEFIT(-4.65%), NASCON(-4.13%), ACCESS(-3.17%), UBA(-2.60%), GTCO(-1.84%), OANDO(-1.26%), FIDELITYBANK(-0.86%), DANGSUGAR(-0.83%), STANBIC(-0.73%), UCAP(-0.47%), CHAMPION(-0.46%).

In addition, the NASD OTC Market Capitalisation lost N3.85 billion, representing 0.72% to close at N529.12 billion. The total volume of securities traded stood at 1,463,160 valued at N47,291,300.00.

MONEY MARKET RATE 080702021

The overnight (O/N) rate closed at 11.750%, appreciating by 1.25% against Wednesday’s position. while Open Buy-Back (OBB) rate closed at 11.25%, appreciating by 1.25% against Wednesday’s position.

 

FOREIGN EXCHANGE 08072021

The I&E FX window opened at N411.75, traded high at N420.86, traded low at N400.00, and eventually closed at N411.25, appreciating by 0.05% against Wednesday’s closing position. However, at the BDC, the naira remains unchanged at N500.00.

CRUDE OIL 07072021

The Brent crude declined by $1.1 to $73.43 on (07/07/2021) from $74.53 (06/07/2021), representing a 1.48% decrease in price. While Bonny Light remained unchanged at $74.16.
