Investors Drawdown Interest in Banking and Oil & Gas Sectors Send Local Bourse Southward

Transactions on the Local Bourse today (Thursday) closed on a negative note, to halt the four consecutive trading sessions of bullish sentiment, as NGX-ASI declines by 0.32%. The downturn was buoyed by price depreciation in the Banking and Oil &Gas sectors, as market watchers continue to assess the published H1 performance of some of the companies and await the release of others. However, the market breadth closed positively, recording 18 gainers as against 16 losers.

In summary, the All-Share Index (ASI) dipped by 126.32 absolute points, representing a decline of 0.32%, to close at 38,801.51 points. Similarly, the overall Market Capitalization value lost N65.82 billion, representing a decrease of 0.32% to close at N20.22 trillion.

CONOIL emerged as the top gainer (by percentage points) for today, with a maximum price appreciation of +10.00%, while ARDOVA emerged as the top loser (by percentage points) with a maximum price depreciation of -6.25%.

Today’s market negative performance was driven by price depreciation in large and medium capitalized stocks amongst which are; ARDOVA (-6.25%), VERITASKAP (-4.00%), AIICO (-2.06%), JAPAULGOLD (-1.92%), WAPIC (-1.92%), MTNN (-1.75%), UPDC (-1.64%), UCAP (-1.47%), GTCO (-1.23%),  WEMABANK (-1.11%), ACCESS (-1.09%), TRANSCORP (-1.06%),  NEM (-0.99%), FBNH (-0.68%), ZENITHBANK (-0.41%), and OANDO (-0.22%).

The Brent crude grew by $0.91 to $71.29 on (05/08/2021) from $70.38 on (04/08/2021), representing a 1.28% rise in price. Bonny Light also appreciated by $0.2 to $70.27 on (05/08/2021) from $70.07 (03/08/2021), representing a 0.28% increase in price.
