Insurance Sector Led Local Bourse to Seesaw Movement

Transactions on the Local Bourse today (Wednesday) closed on a negative note, to overturn the previous day’s bullish sentiment, as NGX-ASI and Market Capitalization dipped marginally by 0.01%, resulting in a seesaw movement of four alternating days of gains and losses.  The downturn was a result of investors’ sell interest in the Banking sector, amid an increase in other major sectors. However, the market breadth closed positively, recording 19 gainers and 17 losers.

In summary, the All-Share Index (ASI) dipped by 4.69 absolute points, representing a decrease of 0.01%, to close at 39,545.67 points. Similarly, the overall Market Capitalization value lost 2.44 billion, representing a decline of 0.01% to close at N20.60 trillion.

PHARMDEKO emerged as the top gainer (by percentage points) for today, with a maximum price appreciation of +10.00%, while SCOA emerged as the top loser (by percentage points) with a maximum price depreciation of -9.66%.

Today’s market negative performance was driven by price depreciation in large and medium capitalized stocks which are; PRESTIGE (-8.33%), REGALINS (-6.98%), MBENEFIT (-5.71%), CAVERTON (-5.49%), MULTIVERSE (-4.76%), WAPIC (-4.00%), JOHNHOLT (-4.00%), JAPAULGOLD (-1.92%), LINKASSURE (-1.69%), ACCESS (-1.10%), AIICO (-1.04%), ETI (-0.90%), GTCO (-0.88%), FBNH (-0.68%), LIVESTOCK (-0.50%), and  UCAP (-0.43%).

The overnight (O/N) rate closed at 17.88% on Wednesday (18/08/2021), appreciating by 0.21% against Tuesday’s position.  Open Buy-Back (OBB) rate closed at 17.50% on Wednesday (18/08/2021), appreciating by 2.86% against Tuesday’s position.

The I&E FX window traded high and low at N413.00 and N400.00 respectively on (18/08/2021) and eventually closed at N411.75, which depreciated by 0.06% against Tuesday’s position. Also, at the BDC, the naira closed at N516, representing a depreciation of 3.00% against Tuesday’s position.
