Heavy decline in Insurance sector drives NSE ASI to 0.24% loss

The Equity Market shed 0.24% to begin the first day of the week in the red. The downturn was driven by a 4.51% loss in the insurance sector performance index.Market breadth closed positive, recording 19 gainers and 14 losers.

 

NSE Trading Floor

 

In summary, the All Share Index (ASI) was down by 75.41 absolute points, representing a decrease of 0.24%, closing at 30,798.76 points. Similarly, Market Capitalization decreased by N27.54 billion representing a decline of 0.24%, closing at N11.24 trillion.

JAIZ BANK  emerged the top gainer while CONTINENTAL INSURANCE emerged the top loser.

The downturn was impacted by loses recorded in medium and large capitalized stocks, amongst which are; STANBIC (-4.06%), ACCESS (-3.23%), NB (2.66%), HONYFLOUR (-1.82%), DANGCEM (-1.02%) and MOBIL (-0.11%).

FOREIGN EXCHANGE

The Naira at the inter-bank rate  closed at N306.85 representing 0.02% depreciation against Friday’s closing price.

The Investors and Exporters (I&E) FX window opened at N363.70, traded high at N365.00 and eventually closed at N364.00, representing a 0.03% appreciation against Friday’s closing price. A total of $384.26 million was transacted through the I&E window today.

 

MONEY MARKET

Overnight (O/N) rate closed at 7.67%, representing a 9.69% depreciation against Friday’s closing position, while Open Buy-Back (OBB) rate also closed  at 6.67% representing a 9.90% depreciation against Friday’s closing position.
