The Federal Government, yesterday, said it is targeting N2billion yearly from the establishment of integrated farm estate in Ogun State, even as it plans to engage over 1500 youths on the farm.

The farm estate to be established by the National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA) on 100 hectares of land in Makun-Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of the State is targeted at having the largest fish, goat and snail farm in the whole of Southwest Nigeria.

The Executive Secretary of NALDA, Paul Ikonne, during an inspection of the site said due to its proximity to the commercial city of Lagos, Ogun state has been earmarked to host the largest farm in the country.

He said “Ogun is one of our key farm estates because of its proximity to the seaports for export purposes and the farm estate would give Nigeria and Nigerians an image in food production”.

Ikonne said the farm estate would boast of garri processing and packaging plants, snail farming, goat rearing and fishing farming.

He said the plan is to complete and commission the estate by February 2022, adding that currently, land clearing has been done and the land is being mapped out for different activities.

When completed, the farm estate would expose the host community to development and boost their living standards and that of other communities hosting the NALDA integrated farm estate.
