Gains in Major Market Sectors Lifts Index as the Nigerian GDP Expands by 5.01%

The Nigerian domestic market closed trading activities for today (Thursday) in the green, as the local bourse bounced back from the previous day’s trading session loss. Today’s positive outturn was due to investors’ increased buying interest in recently depreciated stock prices across the major market sectors, as NGX-ASI advanced by 0.07%, and also, the Nigerian Gross Domestic Product (GDP) expanded by 5.01%. Furthermore, the market breadth closed positively, recording 27 gainers as against 12 losers.

In summary, the All-Share Index (ASI) grew by 27.18 absolute points, representing an increase of 0.07%, to close at 39,477.18 points. Similarly, the overall Market Capitalization value gained 14.23 billion, representing a rise of 0.07% to close at N20.57 trillion.

ETERNA emerged as the top gainer (by percentage points) for today, with a maximum price appreciation of +9.97%, while IKEJAHOTEL emerged as the top loser (by percentage points) with a maximum price depreciation of -10.00%.

Today’s market positive performance was driven by price appreciation in large and medium capitalized stocks which are; UPDC (+9.74%), AIICO (+8.42%), HONYFLOUR (+7.45%), FTNCOCOA (+7.32%), LIVESTOCK (+5.50%), ACADEMY  (+5.41%), VERITASKAP (+4.35%), CHIPLC (+3.85%), MBENEFIT (+3.13%), CAVERTON (+2.78%), FCMB (+2.33%), PRESTIGE (+2.22%), NAHCO(+1.74%), AFRIPUD (+1.65%), FBNH (+1.35%), MANSARD (+1.16%), ACCESS (+1.11%), NEM (+1.03%), ETI (+0.93%),  and  PRESCO (+0.55%)

Nigeria’s foreign reserve appreciated by $82.52 million to $33.48 billion on (25/08/2021) from $33.40 billion on (24/08/2021).

CRUDE OIL 26082021

The Brent crude and WTI crude appreciated by $1.35 and $0.45 to $72.24 and $68.67 on (26/08/2021) from $71.28 and $68.36 on (25/08/2021), representing a rise of 1.35% and 0.45% respectively. Also, the Bonny Light depreciated by $0.69 to $69.14 on (26/08/2021) from $69.62 on (25/08/2021), representing a 0.48 increase in price.
