Gains in Industrial and Consumer Goods Sectors Sustains Equity Market Positive Sentiment

Transactions on the Nigerian equity market today (Thursday) closed on a positive trajectory extending the gaining streak to three consecutive trading sessions. The market’s upturn was as a result of investors’ buy interest in mainly consumer goods and industrial sectors as NGX-ASI  rose by 0.19%. Similarly, the market breadth closed positively, recording 21 gainers as against 14 losers

In summary, the All-Share Index (ASI) advanced by 78.79 absolute points, representing an increase of 0.19%, to close at 41,129.98 points. Similarly, the overall Market Capitalization value grew by N41.06 billion, representing a rise of 0.19% to close at N21.43 trillion.

CHAMPION emerged as the top gainer (by percentage points) with a price appreciation of +9.71%, while LEARNAFRCA emerged as the top loser (by percentage points) for today, with a price depreciation of -10.00%.

Today’s market positive performance was driven by price appreciation in large and medium capitalized stocks which are; CHAMPION (+9.71%) , AFRIPRUD (+7.81%), FBNH(+7.31%), UNIVINSURE (+4.76%), CHAMS (+4.35%), WEMABANK (+4.11%), FIDELITYBNK (+3.33%), UACN (+3.29%), UCAP (+3.28%), STERLINGBNK (+2.61%), WAPCO (+2.43%), AIICO (+2.15%), TRANSCORP (+2.08%),UBN (+2.00%), STANBIC(+1.83%)  GLAXOSMITH (+1.67%), SEPLAT (+1.41%), HONEYFLOUR(+0.90%) AND NEIMETH (+0.56%).

MONEY MARKET 14102021The overnight (O/N) rate closed higher at 11.25 on Thursday (14/10/2021), appreciating by 3.25% against Wednesday’s position.  Open Buy-Back (OBB) rate closed at 11.00 on Thursday (14/10/2021), appreciating by 3.50% against Wednesday’s position.

FOREIGN EXCHANGE 14102021The I&E FX window traded high and low at N420.15 and N405.00 respectively on Thursday (14/10/2021) and eventually closed at N422.07 depreciating by 6.97% against Wednesday’s position.

FOREIGN RESERVE 141020211

Nigeria’s foreign reserve appreciated by $207.39 million to $39.42 billion on (12/10/2021) from $39.21 billion on (12/10/2021).

Crude oil 13102021The WTI crude depreciated by $0.20 to $80.44 on (13/10/2021) from $80.64 on (12/10/2021), representing a decrease of 0.25%, and the Brent Crude depreciated by $0.24 to $83.18 on (13/10/2021) from $83.42 on (12/10/2021), representing a decrease of 0.29%. Also,  the Bonny Light depreciated by $0.35 to $82.80 on (12/10/2021) from $82.80 on (12/10/2021) representing a decrease of 0.42%

 

BOND MARKET

BOND 13102021

FGN Bond market was relatively calm as market participants traded cautiously in anticipation of higher-stop rates at the NTB auction. However, the Nigeria Treasury Bill (NTB)  91-day and 182-day stop rates remain constant at 2.50%, 3.50%, while the 364-day paper closed at 7.25%, showing a decline of c.25bps from the previous NTB auction.
