Gains in Banking stocks fail to lift equity market as NSE-ASI shed 0.16%
Transactions on the Nigerian bourse today (Friday) closed southward with a dip of 0.16%, extending previous day’s negative sentiment to two consecutive trading days. The downturn was buoyed by persistent profit taken on some blue-chip stocks like ACCESS, FBNH, WAPCO and 25 other. Consequently, the market breadth closed on a negatively, recording 27 losers as against 9 gainers.
NSE Trading Floor
In summary, the All-Share Index (ASI) decreased by 38.28 absolute points, representing a dip of 0.16% to close at 24,336.12 points. Similarly, the overall Market Capitalization size shed N20.00 billion, representing a contraction of 0.16% to close at N12.70 trillion.
IKEJAHOTEL emerged as the top gainer while REDSTAREX & UACN emerged as the top losers.
The downturn was impacted by losses recorded in large and medium capitalized stocks, amongst which are; NB (-5.68%), JAPAULOIL (-4.35%), HONYFLOUR (-4.21%), PZ (-2.50%), ACCESS (-2.31%), UBA (-1.63%), FBNH (-0.98%), WAPCO (-0.96%) and FLOURMILL (0.28%).

The Investors and Exporters (I&E) FX window opened at N386.86, traded high at N389.75, and eventually closed at N386.00, unchanged against the previous day’s closing position. A total of $204.90 million was transacted through the I&E window today.
MONEY MARKET
Overnight(O/N) rate closed at 23.50%, representing a 19.90% appreciation against the previous day’s closing position, while Open Buy-Back (OBB) rate closed at 21.50%, representing an 18.70% appreciation against the previous day’s position.

The NASD OTC market today (Friday) closed positively, as the Unlisted Securities Index (USI) closed at 716.96, representing a 1.15% appreciation against the previous day’s closing position. Similarly, Market Capitalization gained N300 million, to closed at N526.65 billion, representing a 1.15% appreciation against the previous day’s closing position. However, the aggregate volume and aggregated value increased by 1,018.32% and 7,882.78% respectively, as investors traded a total of 114.404 shares, worth N2.79 million in 11 deal.
