Financial Sector Extends Local Bourse Decline, as NGX-ASI Recedes Marginally by 0.004%

The Nigerian equity market closed transactions for today (Tuesday) on a negative note, to extend the bearish sentiment to two consecutive trading sessions. The price depreciation was buoyed by sell-off in the banking and insurance sectors, as NGX-ASI declined marginally by 0.004%. Furthermore, the market breadth closed negatively, recording 21 losers as against 15 gainers.

In summary, the All-Share Index (ASI) shed 1.60 absolute points, representing a decrease of 0.004%, to close at 39,251.29 points. Similarly, the overall Market Capitalization value lost N830 million, representing a drop of 0.004% to close at N20.45 trillion.

UACP emerged as the top gainer (by percentage points) for today, with a price appreciation of +8.00%, while CORNEST emerged as the top loser (by percentage points) with a price depreciation of -8.77%.

Today’s market negative performance was driven by price depriciation in large and medium capitalized stocks which are; UNIVINSURE (4.76%), ETI (-4.55%), NEM (-4.50%), UACN (-4.09%), TRANSCOHOT(-3.29%), NEIMETH (-3.06%), WEMABANK  (-2.38%), UNITYBANK(-1.82%), FCMB (-1.69%), UBA (-1.32%), TRANSCORP (-1.09%), GTCO (-0.90%), FBNH (-0.67%),DANGSUGAR(-0.29%), and ZENITHBANK(-0.21%)
