FG implements 140 reforms in three years –PEBEC


The Federal Government has implemented over 140 reforms in the country in the last three years.

This was contained in a report by the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council on the ‘Ease of Doing Business 2019 outlook, which was released during the Convention of Business Integrity Limited in Lagos on Thursday.

PEBEC stated in the report that, “Nigeria improved its Ease of Doing Business Performance Score from 51.52 to 52.89, as the country was ranked 146 out of 190 countries in the World Bank’s 2019 Doing Business Index released on October 31, 2018.

“Nigeria has implemented over 140 reforms over the past three years, increased its Distance-to-Frontier score by over 11 basis points, and moved up 24 places in the World Bank Doing Business rankings.

“Nigeria was ranked among the top 100 countries in business dynamism and as one of the most entrepreneurial countries in the world, according to the World Economic Forum.”

Under its 2019 strategic goals, the PEBEC stated that it aimed to move Nigeria’s ranking to sub-100 in the 2020 World Bank Doing Business report.

The report said the Federal Government had commenced a proactive and deliberate effort to drive effective communication of the completed reforms to key stakeholders and the general public.

This, it added, aimed to build support within and outside the MDAs to improve internal monitoring, support the objective of performance consistency and ensure private sector validation.

During the GTE conference, the EoDB mobile app, a web-based platform for the resolution of issues encountered with ministries, departments and agencies of the government was launched.

The GTE noted that the app would help to give opportunity to the private sector to give feedback on the activities of the ministries, and let the government know what was happening there, and be able to establish viable data.

The Minister of Trade and Investment, Dr Okechukwu Enalamah, said that the app could be downloaded and would be of huge benefits to the users.

PEBEC was established by President Muhammadu Buhari in July, 2016, to remove delays and restrictions with doing business in Nigeria.

On May 18, 2017, the vice- president Prof Yemi Osinbajo, signed the first Executive Order 1 to promote transparency and efficiency in the business environment.
