Equity market halts two days winning streak, sheds 0.06%

Trading activities on the Nigerian equity market today (Tuesday) on a negative trajectory. to reverse the previous day’s trading gain. The bearish performance was due to investors’ profit-taking sentiment in recently appreciated blue-chip stocks like SEPLAT, WAPCO, ZENITH BANK, and 14 others. Consequently, the market indicators (NGX-ASI and market capitalization) contracted by 0.06%. However, the market breadth closed marginally positive recording 18 gainers against 17 losers.

In summary, the All-Share Index (ASI) depreciated by 23.51 absolute points, representing a decline of 0.06% to close at 38,414.37 points. Similarly, the overall Market Capitalization value lost N12.25 billion, representing an decrease of 0.06% to close at N20.02trillion.

MORRISON emerged as the top gainer (by percentage points) for today, with a maximum price appreciation of +9.51%, while CHAMPION emerged as the top loser (by percentage points) with a maximum price depreciation of -9.91%.

Today’s market downturn was driven by price depreciation in large and medium capitalized stocks amongst which are; AFRIPUD(-7.26%), HONYFLOUR(-6.61%), UCAP(-3.72%), INTBREW(-2.73%), FTNCOCOA(-2.63%), MBENEFIT(-2.27%), UNILEVER(-1.67%), FIDELITYBANK(-1.33%), SEPLAT(-1.16%), TRANSCORP(-1.12%), WAPCO(-0.94%), AIICO(-0.83%), ZENITHBANK(-0.65%) and DANGSUGAR(-0.29%).
