Equity Market halts Three Days Downturn with N78 billion Gain

Trading activities on Nigerian Bourse closed for today (Thursday) on a positive day, halting the three consecutive trading losses. The bullish sentiment was due to investors’ bargain-hunting for recently depreciated stocks in all the major sectors except the Insurance sector. Hence, the year-to-date (YTD) moderated to -5.75%. As a result, the market indicators (NGX-ASI and capitalization) rebounded by 0.40%. Furthermore, the market breadth closed positively, recording 20 gainers as against 14 losers.

In summary, the All-Share Index (ASI) grew by 149.89 absolute points, representing a growth of 0.40% to close at 37,954.35 points. Similarly, the overall Market Capitalization value gained N78.12 billion, representing an increase of 0.40% to close at N19.78 trillion.

MBENEFIT and PORTPAINT emerged as the joint top gainers (by percentage points) for today, with a maximum price appreciation of +10.00 while JULI emerged as a  top loser (by percentage points) with a maximum price depreciation of -9.56%.

Today’s market upturn was driven by price appreciation in large and medium capitalized stocks amongst which are; ETERNA(+3.92%), BUACEMENT(+2.14%) GTCO(+1.58%), FBNH(+1.41%) ZENITHBANK(+1.28%), STERLINGBANK(+1.26%), NB(+1.10%), FIDELITY(+0.43%), and STANBIC(+0.32%).

FOREIGN EXCHANGE 24062021

The Investors and Exporters (I&E) FX window opened at N411.42, traded high at N420.80, traded low at N401.00, and eventually closed at N411.67 depreciating by 0.04% against Wednesday’s closing position. However, the naira remains unchanged at the BDC.

FOREIGN RESERVE 24062021 1

Nigeria’s foreign reserve dipped by $41.87 million to $33.59 billion on (23/06/2021) from $33.63 billion on (22/06/2021), representing a 0.12% decline.

Crude Oil 25062021The Brent crude increased by $0.31 to $74.81 on (24/06/2021) from $74.50 (23/06/2021), representing 0.42% increase in price. While, Bonny Light declined by $0.34 to $74.74 on (24/06/2021) from $75.08 on (23/06/2021)
