Equity Market Halt Two-Days Bullish Run, As NSE-ASI shed 0.20%

The Nigerian Bourse closed trading activities for today (Friday) on a negative note, to halt the gains of the last two consecutive trading days. Today’s decline was driven by sell-off in some bellwether stocks like MTNN, UBA, STANBIC and 10 others. Conversely, the market breadth closed positively, recording 20 gainers against 13 losers.

In summary, the All-Share Index (ASI) depreciated by 76.94 absolute points, representing a decrease of 0.20% to close at 39,216.20 points. While the overall Market Capitalization value lost N40.26 billion, representing a plunge of 0.20% to close at N20.52trillion.

GUINNESS emerged as the top gainer (by percentage points) with a price appreciation of +9.89%, while FTNCOCOA emerged as the top loser (by percentage points) for today, with a price depreciation of -9.8%.

Today’s market loss was driven by price depreciation in large and medium capitalized stocks amongst which are; JAIZBANK(-9.23%), ROYALEX(-7.62%) WAPIC(-7.27%), AFRINSURE(-4.76%),  CAP(-4.55%), LIVESTOCK(-3.31%), UAC-PROPERTY(-2.44%),  MTNN(-1.84%), OANDO(-1.79%), STANBIC(-1.7%) and UBA(-0.73%).

The Naira at the official rate remains unchanged to close at N379.00/$1 as against last Monday’s position.

The Investors and Exporters (I&E) FX window opened at N409.17 traded high at N411.40 and eventually closed at N410.00representing 0.06% depreciation against Thursday’s position. Also, a total of $171.85million was transacted through the I&E window today.

MONEY MARKET

Overnight(O/N) rate closed at 10.75%, representing a 5.00% depreciation against Wednesday’s position, while Open Buy-Back (OBB) rate closed at 10.50%,  representing a 5.00% depreciation as against Friday’s position.
