Equity market extends negative sentiment to three consecutive trading sessions

The Nigerian equity market on Tuesday extends negative sentiment to three consecutive trading sessions, as the market performance indicators (NSE-ASI and Market Capitalisation) declined by 1.06%. This was impacted by the decline in Dangcem, MTNN and 13 others. Consequently, the market breadth closed marginally negative, recording 14 gainers as against 15 losers.

 

NSE Trading Floor

In summary, the All-Share Index (ASI) sheds 254.93 absolute points, representing a decline of 1.06% to close at 23,695.90 points. Similarly, the overall Market Capitalization size lost N132.86 billion, representing a decrease of 1.06% to close at N12.35 trillion.

NEIMETH emerged as the top gainer while CAVERTON emerged as the top loser.

The downtrend was impacted by losses recorded in large and medium capitalized stocks, amongst which are; DANGCEM (-4.33%), UBA (-1.61%), BUACEMENT (-0.94%), ACCESS (-0.78%), and MTNN (-0.36%).

FOREIGN EXCHANGE

The Naira at the official window on Tuesday closed unchanged at 361.00/$1, against yesterday’s position.

The Investors and Exporters (I&E) FX window opened at N387.63, traded high at N389.75 and eventually closed at N386.94, to remain unchanged as against yesterday’s closing position. A total of $9.98 million was transacted through the I&E window today.

MONEY MARKET

Overnight(O/N) rate closed at 8.20%, representing a 1.43% depreciation against yesterday’s closing position, while Open Buy-Back (OBB) rate closed at 7.40%, representing a 1.10% depreciation against yesterday’s position.

NASD OTC MARKET

The NASD OTC market on Monday sustained yesterday’s negative sentiment as the Unlisted Securities Index (USI) declined by 0.84% closed at 688.32,  as against yesterday’s closing position. Similarly, Market Capitalization lost N4.30 billion closed at N505.62 billion. Also, both the aggregate volume and value declined by 46.43% and 65.57% respectively, as investors traded a total of 9,240 shares, worth N997,920 in 4 deal.
