Equity market decline further as investors weigh CoVid-19 impact
Following last week’s reported case of CoVid-19 in Nigeria, equity market on Monday sustained losing streak into the new month (extending downtrend to seven consecutive trading days) as investors continue to sell-down amidst the fear of coronavirus pandemic. Consequently, the market breadth closed negative, recording 9 gainers against 28 losers.
NSE Trading Floor
In summary, the All-Share Index (ASI) decreased by 399.89 absolute points, representing a dip of 1.53% to close at 25,816.57 points. Similarly, the overall Market Capitalization size shed N208.32 billion, representing a dip of 1.53% to close at N13.45 trillion.
LAWUNION emerged as the top gainer while NESTLE, UNILEVER, WAPCO, & PZ emerged as top losers.
The downtrend was impacted by losses recorded in large and medium capitalized stocks, amongst which are; NESTLE (-10.00%), WAPCO (-10.00%), PZ (-10.00%), ACCESS (-6.10%), ETI (-5.56%), GUARANTY (-4.62%), UBA (-3.73%), and ZENITHBANK (-2.43%).

The Investors and Exporters (I&E) FX window opened at N365.07, traded high at N366.60 and eventually closed at N365.46, representing a 0.06% depreciation against Friday’s closing position. A total of $848.01 million was transacted through the I&E window today.
MONEY MARKET
Overnight(O/N) rate closed at 15.58%, representing a 0.83% depreciation against Friday’s closing position, while Open Buy-Back (OBB) rate closed at 14.83%, representing 0.67% depreciation against Friday’s position.
