Equity Market began the week in the red, as investors loses N48 billion
The Nigerian Equity Market closed today’s trading session on a bearish note, extending losing streak to 6-successsive trading sessions. The overall market performance index, NSE-ASI, came down by 0.36%; and this in nominal term translates to a N48 billion reduction in market capitalization value. Today’s decline was mainly driven by losses in Industrial Goods stocks and three others. Consequently, market breadth closed negative, recording 15 gainers and 20 losers.
NSE Trading Floor
The All Share Index (ASI) shed 109.94 absolute points, representing a decline of 0.36% to close at 30,322.19 points. Similarly, Market Capitalization lost N48.42 billion, representing a dip of 0.36% to close at N13.35 trillion.
CHIPLC & UAC-PROP emerged the top gainer while UNITYBNK & CCNN emerged as top losers.
The downtrend was impacted by losses recorded in large and medium capitalized stocks, amongst which are; CCNN (-10.00%), UNILEVER (-7.59%), OANDO (-3.75%), DANGFLOUR (-2.44%), ETI (-2.00%), TRANSCORP (-1.72%), WEMABANK (-1.61%), ZENITHBANK (-0.49%) and MTNN (-0.37%).

FOREIGN EXCHANGE
The Naira exchange rate at the official window closed at N306.95/$1, representing a 0.02% depreciation as against last Friday’s position.
The Investors and Exporters (I&E) FX window opened at N359.94, traded high at N361.50 and eventually closed at N360.63 representing a 0.03% appreciation against last Friday’s closing position. A total of $213.97 million was transacted through the I&E window today.
MONEY MARKET
Overnight(O/N) rate closed at 12.71%, representing a 1.29% appreciation against last Friday’s closing position, while Open Buy-Back (OBB) rate closed at 12.29%, representing a 1.43% appreciation against last Friday’s closing position.

NASD OTC MARKET
The NASD market closed positively after today’s trading sessions, activities as the Unlisted Securities Index (USI) grew by 0.02 absolute point to close at 753.37 points against last Fridays index. The Market Capitalization gained N10.00 million closing at N541.25 billion. Conversely, Market activities measured by aggregate volume and value declined by 87.83% and 57.06% respectively. Investors traded a total of 75,500 units of shares valued at N6.20 million in 10 deals.
