Transaction on the Nigerian equity market closed for today (Wednesday) in a southward direction, reversing the rally recorded in the previous trading session. The bearish performance was buoyed by investors’ profit-taking sentiment in all the major sectors except the Industrial sector that was unchanged. Consequently, NGX-ASI declined by 0.03%. Also, the market breadth closed negatively, recording 19 gainers as against 17 losers.

In summary, the All-Share Index (ASI) dropped by 10.68 absolute points, representing a decrease of 0.03%, to close at 39,450.00 points. Similarly, the overall Market Capitalization value lost 5.57 billion, representing a fall of 0.03% to close at N20.55 trillion.

ETERNA emerged as the top gainer (by percentage points) for today, with a maximum price appreciation of +10.00%, while ACADEMY emerged as the top loser (by percentage points) with a maximum price depreciation of -9.76%.

Today’s market negaitive performance was driven by price depreciation in large and medium capitalized stocks which are; ACADEMY(9.76%), MBENEFIT (-8.57%), UNITYBANK (-6.67%), SOVERNINS (-4.35%), PRESTIGE (-4.26%), DANGSUGAR  (-2.78%), NAHCO (-2.71%), JAPAULGOLD (-1.89%), OANDO (-1.86%), STERLINGBANK(-1.29%), TRANSCORP(-1.04%), ETI(-0.92%), GTCO(-0.20%), FBNH(-0.67%) and  ZENITHBANK (-0.41%)

FOREIGN EXCHANGE 25082021The I&E FX window traded high and low at N413.00 and N400.00 respectively on (25/08/2021) and eventually closed at N412.00, depreciating by 0.24% against Tuesday’s position. Also, at the BDC, the naira closed at N519, unchanged against Monday’s position.

FOREIGN RESERVE 25082021

Nigeria’s foreign reserve declined further by $31.29 million to $33.40 billion on (24/08/2021) from $33.43 billion on (23/08/2021).

CRUDE OIL 25082021

The Brent crude and WTI crude appreciated by $0.23 and $0.82 to $71.28 and $68.36 on (25/08/2021) from $71.05 and $67.54 on (24/08/2021), representing a rise of 0.32% and 1.21% respectively. Also, the Bonny Light appreciated by $0.57 to $69.62 on (25/08/2021) from $69.05 on (24/08/2021), representing a 0.83% increase in price.
