Decline in Oil and Gas sector, 3 others drag stock market to N18 billion loss
The equity market closed the trading week today prolonging negative sentiment, as the NSE-ASI declined by 0.17%. The decline was impacted by sell-off in the Oil and Gas sectors and three others, except the consumer goods sector which recorded a 0.13% gain. Interestingly, for the first time this year, the market recorded losses in all trading sessions this week. Market breadth closed negative, recording 13 gainers and 27 losers.
NSE Trading Floor
The All Share Index (ASI) shed 48.44 absolute points, representing a decline of 0.17% to close at 28,847.81 points. Similarly, Market Capitalization decreased by N18.21 billion representing a dip of 0.17% to close at N10.84trillion.
SOVRENINS emerged the top gainer while ABCTRANS emerged as top loser.
The downtrend was impacted by losses recorded in medium and large capitalized stocks, amongst which are; SEPLAT (-9.98%), ETERNA (-4.88%), FCMB (-4.76%), UBA (-1.52%), GUARANTY (-0.93%), FBNH (-0.68%), and FIDELITYBANK (-0.54%).

The Naira exchange rate at the official window remained unchanged to closed at N307.00/$1, against yesterday’s position.
The Investors and Exporters (I&E) FX window opened at N360.45, traded high at N361.80 and eventually closed at N360.88 representing a 0.06% appreciation against yesterday’s closing position. A total of $215.35 million was transacted through the I&E window today.
Overnight(O/N) rate closed at 10.00%, representing a 4.29% depreciation against yesterday’s closing position, while Open Buy-Back (OBB) rate closed at 9.14%, representing a 4.43% depreciation against yesterday’s closing position.

NASD OTC MARKET
The NASD market closed negatively after today’s trading activities as the Unlisted Securities Index (USI) shed 0.10% to closed at 764.86 points against yesterday’s index. Market Capitalization also declined by N530 million to closed at N549.50 billion. However, market activities measured by aggregate volume and value grew by 707.83% and 651.34% respectively. Investors traded a total of 76,881 units of shares valued at N9.16 million in 7 deals.
Two securities were traded on the OTC Platform today and they include SDCSCSPLC and SDFCWAMCO.
