Decline in Market bellwethers further lead ASI to Shed 2.22%
The Nigeria Stock Exchange (NSE) today extended its previous negative sentiment, following selloff in market bellwethers. Consequently, the All-Share Index (ASI) shed 2.22% recording its highest decline in 20 weeks. Market breadth closed negative, recording 14 gainers and 19 losers.
NSE Trading Floor
The All Share Index (ASI) shed 686.58 absolute points, representing a decline of 2.22% to close at 30,194.71 points. Similarly, Market Capitalization dipped by N302.41 billion, representing a decrease of 2.22% to close at N13.30 trillion.
NEIMETH emerged the top gainer while RTBRISCOE emerged as top loser.
The downturn was impacted by losses recorded in large and medium capitalized stocks, amongst which are; MTNN (-7.14%), DANGCEM (-4.00%), OANDO (-2.27%), UACN (-1.55%), TRANSCORP (-0.88%), UBA (-0.87%), and FLOURMILL (-0.36%).

The Naira exchange rate at the official window closed at N306.95/$1, representing a 0.02% depreciation against last Friday’s position.
The Investors and Exporters (I&E) FX window opened at N360.30, traded high at N361.50 and eventually closed at N360.59 representing a 0.06% depreciation against last Friday’s closing position. A total of $217.08 million was transacted through the I&E window today.
Overnight(O/N) rate closed at 15.29%, representing a 3.29% appreciation against last Friday’s closing position, while Open Buy-Back (OBB) rate closed at 14.50%, representing a 3.36% appreciation against last Friday’s closing position.

The NASD market remain unchanged as the Unlisted Securities Index (USI) closed at 749.89 points against Friday’s index. The Market Capitalization also remain unchanged, closing at N538.75 billion. Market activities measured by aggregate volume and value declined by 95.47% and 8.15% respectively. Investors traded a total of 10,319 units of shares valued at N2.74 million in 12 deals.
