Transactions on the Nigeria equity market today (Thursday) ended on a negative trajectory, extending the losing streaks to nine consecutive sessions. Consequently, the market indicators (NGX-ASI and market capitalization) plunged by 0.46%, as a result of investors’ sustained profit-taking sentiments in three major sectors of the market, led by the industrial sector(-1.07%), banking sector (-0.36%) and insurance sector(-0.25%). Furthermore, the market breadth closed negatively recording 21 losers against 16 gainers.

In summary, the All-Share Index (ASI) decreased by 177.47 absolute points, representing a dip of 0.46% to close at 38,056.21 points. Similarly, the overall Market Capitalization value shed N92.50 billion, representing a decline of 0.46% to close at N19.84trillion.

MBENEFIT emerged as the top gainer (by percentage points) for today, with a maximum price appreciation of 7.32%, while SOVERNINS emerged as the top loser (by percentage points) with a maximum price depreciation of -10.00%.

Today’s market downturn was driven by price depreciation in large and medium capitalized stocks amongst which are; ROYALEX(-6.33%), WAPIC(-5.66%), NEIMETH(-5.49%), MRS(-4.96%), MAYBAKER(-4.76%), PRESTIGE(-3.85%), JAPAULGOLD(-3.57%), ETERNA(-3.21%), DANGCEM(-2.86%), UAC-PROP(-2.56%), UACN(-2.22%), GUARANTY(-1.23%), ETI(-0.96%). and STERLING BANK(-0.60%)
