Bellwether stocks sustains market bearish run

The Nigerian Bourse today (Wednesday) closed on a negative note,  to extend the bearish run as the market lose N91.85 billion. The NSE-ASI declined by 0.59%, following the price depreciation of bellwether stocks like WAPCO, MTNN, DANGSUGAR, ZENITH BANK and 26 others. Consequently, the market breadth closed largely negative, recording 30 losers and 16 gainers.

In summary, the All-Share Index (ASI) contracted by 175.56 absolute points, representing a decrease of 0.44% to close at 39,522.06points. While the overall Market Capitalization value lost N91.85 billion, representing a decline of 0.44% to close at N20.68 trillion.

JAPAULGOLD emerged as the top loser (by percentage points) for today, with a price depreciation of -10.00%, while SEPLAT emerged as the top gainer with a price appreciation of +10.00%.

Today’s market loss was driven by price depreciation in large and medium capitalized stocks amongst which are; JAPAULGOLD(-10.00%), NAHCO(-8.77%), OANDO(-7.69%), WAPCO(-7.14%), TRANSCORP(-6.74%), UACN(-3.87%), UCAP(-2.66%), MTNN(-2.30%), FIDELITY(-2.13%), DANGSUGAR(-1.40%), UBN(-0.97%), ACCESS(-0.62%) and ZENITHBANK(-0.39%).

The Investors and Exporters (I&E) FX window opened at N410.66 traded high at N415.00 and eventually closed at N411.00, representing 0.15% appreciation against Monday’s position. A total of $59.17 million was transacted through the I&E window today.

MONEY MARKET

Overnight(O/N) rate closed at 7.63%, representing a 2.79% appreciation against yesterday’s position, while Open Buy-Back (OBB) rate closed at 7.00%,  representing a 2.67% appreciation as against yesterday’s position.
