Bellwether stocks sustains equity market upturn
The Nigerian equity market on Thursday sustained previous day’s upturn, following price appreciation in some bellwether stocks. Consequently, the market breadth closed positively, recording 18 gainers as against 14 losers.
NSE Trading Floor
In summary, the All-Share Index (ASI) increased by 183.48 absolute points, representing a growth of 0.77% to close at 23,892.92 points. However, the overall Market Capitalization size gained N84.95 billion, representing a growth of 0.69% to close at N12.44 trillion.
FIDSON emerged as the top gainer while CUSTODIAN emerged as the top loser.
The uptrend was impacted by gains recorded in large and medium capitalized stocks, amongst which are; FIDSON (+9.62%), FCMB (+5.26%), NESTLE (+4.00%), FBNH (+3.13%), GUARANTY (+2.56%), ZENITHBANK (+1.99%), DANGCEM (+1.74%), UBA (+0.83%) and ETERNA (+0.39%).

FOREIGN EXCHANGE
The Naira at the official window on Thursday closed unchanged at 361.00/$1, against yesterday’s position.
The Investors and Exporters (I&E) FX window opened at N385.83, traded high at N389.99 and eventually closed at N386.58, representing a 0.09% appreciation as against yesterday’s closing position. A total of $17.00 million was transacted through the I&E window today.
MONEY MARKET
Overnight(O/N) rate closed at 4.40%, representing a 3.23% depreciation against yesterday’s closing position, while Open Buy-Back (OBB) rate closed at 3.60%, representing a 3.40% depreciation against yesterday’s position.

The NASD OTC market today remains unchanged as the Unlisted Securities Index (USI) closed at 688.51, as against yesterday’s closing position. Similarly, Market Capitalization closed at N505.76 billion. Both the aggregate volume increased by 20.80% and 14,670.91% respectively, as investors traded a total of 15,100 shares, worth N4.06 million in 2 deal.
