Bellwether Stocks Plunges NGX-ASI by 0.63%

The Nigerian local bourse closed transactions for the first day in the new week on a negative note, as NGX-ASI declined by 0.63%. Today’s bearish outturn was due to investors’ sell-off sentiment in some medium and large-scale stocks such as DANGCEM, FLOUR MILL, and 16 others, as market watchers also await the release of the half-year earnings reports of the big 5-Banks. However, the market breadth closed positively, recording 19 gainers as against 18 losers.

In summary, the All-Share Index (ASI) declined by 243.49 absolute points, representing a decrease of 0.63%, to close at 38,567.26 points. Similarly, the overall Market Capitalization value also lost N126.85 billion, representing a drop of 0.63% to close at N20.09 trillion.

CONOIL emerged as the top gainer (by percentage points) for today, with a maximum price appreciation of +9.83%, while UPL emerged as the top loser (by percentage points) with a maximum price depreciation of -9.79%.

Today’s market negative performance was driven by price depreciation in large and medium capitalized stocks which are; LINKASSURE (-7.81%), NPFMCRFBK (-4.26%), CORNERST (-3.70%), WEMABANK (-3.48%), DANGCEM (-3.26%), FLOURMILL (-2.30%), LIVESTOCK (-2.00%), TRANSCORP (-1.05%), UNILEVER (-0.69%), and  ZENITHBANK (-0.41%).
