Bearish Sentiment Persists, As Equity Market Wraps-Up The Week Southward

The Nigerian bourse closed the transactions for today (Friday) in red, winding up the week  to the third losing streak. The negative sentiment was due to sell-off by investors in most blue-chip stocks such as; MTNN, HONYFLOUR , AIICO, FIDELITYBANK and 11 others as NGX-ASI Plunges by 0.82%. However, the market breadth closed positively recording 16 gainers as against 15 losers.

In summary, the All-Share Index (ASI) fell by 356.05 absolute points, representing a drop of 0.82%, to close at 43,253.01 points. Similarly, the overall Market Capitalization value decreased by N185.81 billion, representing a fall of 0.82% to close at N22.57trillion. 

VERITASKAP emerged as the top gainer (by percentage points) with a price appreciation of +9.52%, while UPDC emerged as the top loser (by percentage points) for today, with a price depreciation of -9.47%.

Today’s market negative performance was driven by price depreciation in large and medium capitalized stocks which are; UPDC (-9.47%), LIVESTOCK(-8.68%), PRESTIGE(-8.51%), GLAXOSMITH(-6.25%), NPFMCRFBK(-5.26%), UNIVINSURE(-4.55%), JAPAULGOLD(-4.55%), MTNN(-4.50%),  HONYFLOUR(-3.95%), WEMABANK(-2.33%), CUTIX(-1.75%), JAIZBANK(-1.54%), AIICO(-0.78%),UCAP(-0.52%),and FIDELITYBANK(-0.37%).

Crude oil 28102021The WTI crude depreciated by $1.99 to $82.66 on Wednesday (28/10/2021) from $84.65 on Tuesday (27/10/2021), representing a decrease of 2.35%, and the Brent Crude depreciated by $0.21 to $83.66 on Wednesday (28/10/2021) from $83.87 on Tuesday (27/10/2021), representing a decrease of 0.25%. Also,  the Bonny Light depreciated by $1.16 to $83.05 on Wednesday (28/10/2021) from $84.21 on Tuesday (27/10/2021) representing a decrease of 1.38%
