Bear Sustains Dominance as Price of Major Stocks Dip

Trading on the Nigerian Stock Exchange today (Thursday), sustained a sliding profile, as more blue-chip stocks depreciated in price, causing the All-Share Index to dip further by 0.51%. Consequently, the market breadth closed negatively, recording 21 gainers as against  25 losers.

In summary, the All-Share Index (ASI) dropped by 214.21 absolute points, representing a fall of 0.51% to close at 41,785.80 points. Also, the overall Market Capitalization value lost N112.05 billion, representing a shrink of 0.51% to close at N21.86trillion.

AFRINSURE, and GUINEAINS emerged as top gainer (by percentage points) for today, with the maximum price appreciation of +10.00%, while NNFM topped the losers’ chart  with a price depreciation of -9.94%.

Today’s market loss was driven by price depreciation in large and medium capitalized stocks amongst which are; CHAMPION(-9.73%),  JAIZBANK(-9.33%), JAPAULGOLD(-8.54%), MANSARDS(-6.52%), JBERGER(-6.19%), HONYFLOUR(-4.70%), TRANSCORP(-3.85%), PZ(-3.42%), DANGCEM(-2.54%), UACN(-1.78%), UBA(-1.13%),  ZENITHBANK(-0.74%), FIDELITYBK(-0.38%), and GUARANTY(-0.15%).

The Investors and Exporters (I&E) FX window opened at N395.38, traded high at N397.20 and eventually closed at N397.63, representing 0.54% depreciation against yesterday’s position. A total of $52.59 million was transacted through the I&E window today.

MONEY MARKET

Overnight(O/N) rate closed at 13.00%, representing a 1.50% appreciation against yesterday’s position, while Open Buy-Back (OBB) rate closed at 12.50%,  representing a 1.25% appreciation as against yesterday’s position.
