Bear rule extends as NSE-ASI post marginal loss

The Nigeria stock market today extend its bearish trend as the NSE-ASI fell marginally by 0.01% following selloff in Banking and Consumer goods sectors. Consequently, market breadth closed negative, recording 18 gainers and 20 losers. However, market capitalization climbed from yesterday’s position following the listing of additional right issue by Lafarge.

NSE Trading Floor

The All Share Index (ASI) dipped by 3.46 absolute points, representing a decline of 0.01%, to close at 31,042.32 points. The downtrend was impacted by losses recorded in medium and large capitalized stocks, amongst which are; WEMABANK (-6.25%), PRESCO (-5.15%), TRANSCORP (-3.97%), NB (-3.60%), PZ (-2.86%), HONYFLOUR (-0.83%), UBA (-0.64%), FCMB (-0.51%), GUARANTY (-0.27%), and NESTLE (-0.01%).

Conversely, Market Capitalization gained N94.97 billion representing an increase of 0.82%, to close at N11.67trillion as result of the additional listing of 7,434,367,256 ordinary shares of Lafarge Africa Plc (Lafarge). Hence, the total issued and fully paid up shares of Lafarge plc increased from 8,673,428,240 to 16,107,795,496 ordinary shares.

 

CADBURY emerged the top gainer while WEMABANK emerged as the top loser.

FOREIGN EXCHANGE

The Naira at the inter-bank rate remain unchanged to closed at N306.95  against yesterday’s closing position.

The Investors and Exporters (I&E) FX window opened at N360.65, traded high at N361.50 and eventually closed at N360.25, representing a 0.04% appreciation against yesterday’s closing position. A total of $224.85 million was transacted through the I&E window today.

MONEY MARKET

Overnight(O/N) rate closed at 17.29%, representing a 7.14% depreciation against yesterday’s closing position, while Open Buy-Back (OBB) rate also closed at 16.43%, representing a 6.00% depreciation against yesterday’s closing position.
