Banking & Consumer goods sectors sustains stock market bearish sentiment

The Nigerian stock market wind up transaction for today (Monday) on a negative note, extending bearish sentiments to three consecutive trading sessions. As a result, the market indicators (NSE-ASI and Market Cap.) decline by 0.22%, as bearish sentiment glean majorly on the Banking sector and the Consumers good sector. Consequently, the market breadth closed marginally negative, recording 18 losers against 17 gainers.

In summary, the All-Share Index (ASI) decreased by 86.64 absolute points, representing a drop of 0.22% to close at 38,561.84 points. While the overall Market Capitalization value lost N45.34 billion, representing a decline of 0.22% to close at N20.18 trillion.

REGALINS emerged as the top losers (by percentage points) for today, with a maximum price depreciation of -9.09%, while WAPIC emerged as the top gainer with a maximum price appreciation of +10.00%.

Today’s market loss was driven by price depreciation in large and medium capitalized stocks amongst which are; LIVESTOCK(-8.50%), NB(-5.34%), UCAP(-3.96%),  INTBREW(-3.77%),  PZ(-3.00%),  GUARANTY(-2.60%), DANGSUGAR(-2.23%), GUINNESS(-2.13%), JAPAULGOLD(-1.96%), TRANSCORP(-1.20%), UBN(-0.98%), ZENITHBANK(-0.70%).

The Investors and Exporters (I&E) FX window opened at N410.95 traded high at N412.20 and eventually closed at N408.90representing 0.27% depreciation against Friday’s position. A total of $63.88 million was transacted through the I&E window today.

MONEY MARKET

Overnight(O/N) rate closed at 12.75%, representing a 1.42% depreciation against Friday’s position, while Open Buy-Back (OBB) rate closed at 12.50%,  representing a 0.83% depreciation as against Friday’s position.
