Banking & Consumer Goods sectors put equities market in decline ahead festive holidays
Ahead of the holiday period, the Nigerian Equity Market on Friday closed in the negative territory, reversing yesterday’s positive sentiment. The decline occurred as a result of price depreciation in some large and mid capitalized stocks in the banking and consumer goods sector. Similarly, market breath closed negative, recording 11 gainers and 15 losers.
NSE Trading Floor
The All Share Index (ASI) decreased by 118.11 absolute points, representing a decline of 0.43% to close at 27,306.81 points. Similarly, the Market Capitalization lost N57.56 billion, representing a dip of 0.43% to close at N13.31 trillion.
CONTINSURE emerged the top gainer while AIICO emerged as top loser.
The downturn was impacted by losses recorded in large and medium capitalized stocks, amongst which are; HONYFLOUR (-5.00%), UACN (-4.35%), UBA (-4.31%), ZENITHBANK (-2.68%), TRANSCORP (-2.25%), DANGSUGAR (-1.98%), FCMB (-1.79%), GUARANTY (-1.49%), FBNH (-1.00%), and ACCESS (+0.83%).

The Naira exchange rate remain unchanged to close N306.90/$1 as against yesterday’s position.
The Investors and Exporters (I&E) FX window opened at N362.62, traded high at N365.00 and eventually closed at N363.44 representing a 0.04% depreciation as against yesterday’s closing position. A total of $333.52 million was transacted through the I&E window today.
Overnight(O/N) rate closed at 12.86%, representing a 0.29% appreciation against yesterday’s closing position, while Open Buy-Back (OBB) rate closed at 12.14%, representing a 0.71% appreciation against yesterday’s closing position.

NASD OTC MARKET
The NASD market remain unchanged at the end of today’s transactions, as the Unlisted Securities Index (USI) closed at 717.05 points against yesterday’s index. Similarly, the Market Capitalization closed at N515.16 billion. However, market activities measured by aggregate volume and value decline by 99.72% and 96.37% respectively. Investors traded a total of 2,660 units of shares valued at N452,400 in 4 deals.
