Banking and Industrial Sectors Led Equity Market to Sustain Positive Sentiment

The Nigerian Equity market closed transactions for today (Wednesday) on a positive note, as NGX-ASI grew marginally by 0.03%, thereby stretching the positive sentiment to four consecutive trading periods. The positive outturn was due to bargain hunters buying interest in both the Industrial and Banking sectors, as market watchers continue to assess the published H1 performance of some of the companies and await the release of others. However, the market breadth closed negatively, recording 19 losers as against 16 gainers.

In summary, the All-Share Index (ASI) grew by 9.84 absolute points, representing an increase of 0.03%, to close at 38,927.83 points. Similarly, the overall Market Capitalization value grew by N5.13 billion, representing an increase of 0.03% to close at N20.28 trillion.

CUTIX emerged as the top gainer (by percentage points) for today, with a maximum price appreciation of +10.00%, while SOVRENINS emerged as the top loser (by percentage points) with a maximum price depreciation of -7.14%.

Today’s market positive performance was driven by price appreciation in large and medium capitalized stocks amongst which are; TRIPPLEG (+7.78%), PRESCO (+3.71%), NAHCO (+2.44%), MANSARD (+2.25%), ACCESS (+2.22%), FCMB (+2.00%), JAPAULGOLD (+1.96%), STERLNBANK (+1.32%), WEMABANK (+1.12%), TRANSCORP (+1.08%), VITAFOAM (+1.00%), WAPCO (+0.46%), and ZENITHBANK (+0.41%).
