Banking and Industrial Sector Drags Local Market to Two Consecutive Losses

Trading activities on the Nigerian equity market sustained the previous day’s negative sentiment as the market performance indices (NSE-ASI and Market Cap) dropped by 0.57%, amidst profit-taking on Banking and Industrial Sectors. The downturn was supported by investors portfolio readjustment ahead of Q1’2021 earnings’ results. Consequently, the market breadth closed negatively, recording 23 losers against 18 gainers.

In summary, the All-Share Index (ASI) declined by 221.98 absolute points, representing a decrease of 0.57% to close at 39,045.13 points. While the overall Market Capitalization value lost N116.14 billion, representing a decrease of 0.57% to close at N20.43trillion.

REGALINS emerged as the top loser (by percentage points) for today, with a price depreciation of -8.70%, while LINKASSURE emerged as the top gainer (by percentage points) with a price appreciation of +10.00%.

Today’s market loss was driven by price depreciation in large and medium capitalized stocks amongst which are; WEMABANK(-8.06%), JAPAULGOLD(-6.82%), ACCESS(-3.61%), MTN(-2.91%), UBA(-2.08%), JBERGER(-2.68%), UNILEVER(-1.83%), STANBIC(-0.97%),  WAPCO(-0.67%), GUARANTY(-0.45%), and ZENTIHBANK(0.22%).

MONEY MARKET

Overnight(O/N) rate closed at 9.25%, representing a 2.08% appreciation against yesterday’s position, while Open Buy-Back (OBB) rate closed at 1.92%,  representing a 1.92% appreciation as against yesterday’s position.
