AIRTEL AFRICA, DANGCEM, Others Drag Local Bourse to Extend Losing Streak, Post 1.48% Loss

Trading activities on the Nigerian bourse today (Wednesday) closed on a bearish note, to extend the negative sentiments to three consecutive trading days, as NGX-ASI and market capitalization plunged by 1.48%. The decline was buoyed by investors’ sell-off in large and medium capitalized stocks like AIRTELAFRICA, DANGCEM, ZENITH BANK, DANGSUGAR, and 21 others. Consequently, the market breadth closed negatively, recording 22 losers against 15 gainers.

In summary, the All-Share Index (ASI) decreased by 577.19 absolute points, representing a decline of 1.48% to close at 38,446.09 points. While the overall Market Capitalization value lost N301 billion, representing a dip of 1.48% to close at N20.04 trillion.

SEPLAT and MRS emerged as the top gainers (by percentage points) for today, with a maximum price appreciation of 10.00%, while AIRTELAFRICA and CILEASING emerged as the top loser (by percentage points) with a maximum price depreciation of -10.00%.

Today’s market downturn was driven by price depreciation in large and medium capitalized stocks amongst which are; ROYALEX(-9.64%), WAPIC(-5.66%), DANGSUGAR(-3.93%), NEM(-3.85%), ETI(-3.70%), AIICO(-3.10%), ZENITHBANK(-2.13%), UACN(-0.96%), INTBREW(-0.88%) STANBIC(-0.88%), UBN(-0.83%), FBNH (-0.70%), OANDO (-0.67%), GUARANTY(-0.51%), UCAP(-0.49%) and DANGCEM(-0.47%).
